Acanthus mollis
Common name is bear’s breech or bear’s breeches. From the Acanthaceae famly. Acanthus are robust herbaceous perennials with handsome, pinnately lobed foliage and tall, erect racemes of two-lipped flowers with colourful dusky purple bracts. Native to S. Europe, N.W. Africa but fully hardy in the UK (H6).
