Hepatitis A
Acute and most common
Transmission: fecel and oral - food and water
Treatment: bed rest, better nutrition, no long term liver damage
Vaccine? On request
hepatitis B
Starts acute and becomes chronic
Transmission: blood, sexual contact, child birth.
Treatment: antiviral meds, chronic liver damage may lead to cancer or death
Vaccine: scheduled age 6
Hepatitis c
Acute to chronic and may be no symptoms for years
Transmission: blood sharing contaminated needles and syringes, infection drug equipment
Treatment: treated and cured 90% with antiviral meds
- major cause of liver cancer
Vaccine: no
Hepatitis symptoms and signs
Fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain, gray coloured bowel mouvements, joint pain, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
- mainly affects the liver
HIV symptoms and name
- name of virus: human immunodeficiency virus
Dependent on stage, flu like ( fever, headache and sore throat) , swollen lymph nodes, and related to other illnesses
HIV Stages
1: lasts for weeks and acute
Not treated then next stage
Acute HIV
2: medication taken may prevent stage 3
No meds then stage 3
Chronic HIV
3: live years with treatment
No meds then live for 3 years
