16
Q

who can get hepatitis E

A
  • immunocompromised humans can get chronic infection
17
Q

how is hepatitis E spread

A
  • faecal-oral

- zoonosis

18
Q

what is treatment for hepatitis E

A

no specific treatment

19
Q

when IgM is present what type of infection is it

A

acute

20
Q

when IgG is present what type of infection is it

A

chronic

21
Q

what do you look at to help you diagnose hepatitis B

A
  • HBsAG
  • HBeAG
  • anti-HBs
  • anti-HBe
  • anti-HBc
  • HBV DNA PCR
22
Q

what is HBsAG

A
  • surface antigen

- screen for evidence of infection

23
Q

what is HBeAG

A
  • e antigen

- indicates high viral replication/infectivity

24
Q

what is anti-HBs

A
  • surface antibody
  • in infection usually seen with loss of HBsAG (indicating clearance of infection)
  • in vaccinated people shows immunity
25
Q

what is anti-HBe

A
  • e antibody

- indicates clearance of eAg/ reduced viral replication/ reduced infectivity

26
Q

what is anti-HBc

A
  • core antibody

- only seen in previously infected patients ( not in vaccinated patients )

27
Q

what is HBV DNA PCR

A
  • used to assess level of viraemia
28
Q

what causes acute viral hepatitis

A
  • mainly caused by A,B,E
29
Q

what are symptoms of acute viral hepatitis

A
  • abdominal pain
  • nausea
  • vomitting
  • jaundice
  • diarrhoea
30
Q

how do you diagnose acute viral hepatitis

A
  • marked raised ALT and AST
  • bilirubin may be elevated
  • relativly normal Alk Phos/gamma-GT
31
Q

what is treatment for acute viral hepatitis

A
  • supportive
  • monitor for fulfilment hepatic failure
  • antiviral rarely indicated

notify public health

32
Q

what causes chronic viral hepatitis

A

C

33
Q

what are the symptoms of chronic viral hepatitis

A
  • limited symptoms unless advanced disease
