Hepatitis G
ss+ nonsegmented RNA virus.
Hepatitis A
ss+ RNA nonenveloped
transmitted fecal oral and has short incubation 2-8 weeks and presents with acute infection only
dx. Anti-HAV, vaccine, supportive care, pooled Immunoglobulins
Hepatitis B
Hepadnaviridae, partially ds DNA, enveloped. Transmitted sexually and by blood and sexual contact. Long incubation, has acute and chronic infection.
Dx. serological markers,
tx. vaccine, drugs
Hepatitis C
ss+ RNA enveloped transmitted by blood and sexual contact, long incubation and acute and chronic infection.
dx. AntiHCV antibody, RT-PCR.
tx. a-interferon, drugs, no vaccine
Hepatitis D
ss-RNA, enveloped spread by blood or sexual contact, long incubation period with acute and chronic infection, only associated with Hep B, needs to borrow nucleocapsid coat.
Hepatitis E
ss+ RNA, nonenveloped. Fecal oral transmission, short incubation with only an acute infection. dx based on anti HEV IgM, IgG, no therapy or vaccine
