Henry was
respected, efficient, intelligent but not popular, mother( Margaret Beaufort)- he also developed a reputation for greed
Henrys marriage
Elizabeth of York- united the hosues- gave her no political influence, had to wait for Popes permission, showed Henry wasnt dependent on his marriage and Elizabeth’s heritage
Henrys claim to the throne
weak, several Yorkist had better claims. By winning Bosworth he had right of conquest but his own claim was weak because his mother descended from a once illegitimate branch of the Lancastrians
Yorkist rival claimants
Edward, Earl of Warwick, Margaret of Burgundy, Stafford Brothers, Francis Lovell, John and Edmund de la Pole, Richard III
Henrys main aim
To maintain a strong hold on the throne and pass it on to his heirs
Henry’s crowning
Crowned day before Battle of Bosworth 21st August 1485, meaning all Richards supporters were technically traitors and gave him the right to take things from the Yorkists/ supporters of Richard as they could be tried for treason
Henrys coronation
30th October 1485- involved Englands nobles taking a public oath of loyalty- anointed him by God’s grace

Arthur- born in September 1486
Parliament meeting
7th November 1485- his authority was not dependent on parliament
Edmund de la Pole
genuine claim to the throne- he had lost land so had to pay a 5000 relief and was demoted from Duke to Earl- he fled England for the HRE in 1501 , locked in the tower and executed in 1513
Acts of Attainder
an act issued against those who opposed him at the Battle of Bosworth- tried without imprisonmemt
Lovell and the Staffords
Fled to Richards III;s stronghold in Yorkshire to raise troops- Lovell escaped and the Staffords fled to colchester abbey and tried to claim sanctuary but were dragged out and tried
Lambert Simnel
Pretended to be Earl of warwick, welcomed in Ireland and was crowned King of England there, led to Battle of Stoke 1487 - Henrry gained oath of loyalties- led by Earl of Lincoln
Perkin Warbeck
Pretended to be Richard, Duke of York, welcomed in France until the Treaty of Etaples 1492 and later Burgundy
-1497 allied himself to King James IV - landed in England and tried to gain support but failed- executed in 1499 along with Earl of Warwick who had a genuine claim to the throne

- checked all account entries himself and liked to double-check info he was given
