Council Learned in Law
unpopular, investigated feudal rights, enforced bonds/recognisances(obligations to perform certain actions before court)/ kept nobles under scrutiny and increased Crown revenue
What did he allow in different regions?
He allowed different systems of government such as Wales controlled by the Council of Wales
The privy chamber
Private space, requires invitation, encourages nobility to work harder, the staff could potentially influence the kings descisions, staffed by lower ranking members of the Royal household, not nobles- increasingly relied on his Privy Chamber after the treason of William Stanley
Parliament
Consisted of 2 bodies ( House of Lords/Commons)- helped Henry consolidate his control after Bosworth and they granted Henry customs duty for life, only parliament could allow extra taxation
House of Lords
Most important- split into Lords spiritual(bishops/abbots) and the Lords temporal ( nobility)
House of Commons
Land owning gentry- 2 knights for every country and properous merchants amd tradesmen( 2 selected for each borough

The levying of taxes/ passed laws considered superior to laws passed by any other means

1486- returned to the Crown all the land it had granted away since 1455

When the crown became wealthier
Star Chamber
1487- undermined Henrys reputation for justice, established to prosecute rioting, rebellion and retaining and the corruption of justice

Feudal land disputes and complaints about mistakes made by the Crown

Henry could dispense justice if the law was unable to deal with a crime
Bonds and recognisances
Payments made to guarantee good behaviour- applied to members of the nobility whose loyalty was uncertain
