• Henry was in love with Anne Boleyn and she was expecting a baby
• The monasteries were very rich—if Henry took over he could take their land
• Henry married his brother’s wife so he believed his marriage was cursed so he had no sons
• Anne Boleyn was Protestant so if he broke with Catholic Church he could impress her
