Why: His brother (Arthur) was married to Catherine. Arthur died and it was custom for his broth to marry the widow
Children: Mary I - Anne Boleyn
Why: He wanted a son ad an heir to the throne
Children: Elizabeth I - Jane Seymour
Why: He had noticed her when she was a maid of honour serving the Queen. He continued to want a son therefore remarried
Children: Edward VI - Anne of Cleves—German
Why: To establish an alliance with the house of Cleves (part of Germany0 - Katherine Howard
Why: Because he didn’t like Anne of Cleves, he called Anne a horse - Katherine Parr
Why: To care for Henry in his old age and to care for his children

A
A trumpeter, royal musician. He played the trumpet for royal ceremonies in the King’s presence.

Reasons for Henry’s break with Rome
A
- He wanted a divorce with Catherine of Aragon because he wanted a son and she was too old to have any more children
- The Pope refused to divorce Henry and Catherine
- Henry wouldn’t have to share power with the Pope
- The Church had lots of money and the king was running out of money
- Henry was in love with Anne Boleyn and she was expecting a baby
- The monasteries were very rich—if Henry took over he could take their land
- Henry married his brother’s wife so he believed his marriage was cursed so he had no sons
- Anne Boleyn was Protestant so if he broke with Catholic Church he could impress her
- No longer in love with Catherine of Aragon

What are the impacts of the closing of monasteries
A
- many monks became unemployed
- higher chances of catching diseases because monasteries were very hygienic
- poor would be affected because monasteries helped feed and clothe the poor
