What were the Acts of Attainder?
Declared a landowner guilty of rebelling against the monarch. The noble attained would lose their title, land and sometimes their life. Heirs were also disinherited
What was Tonnage and Poundage?
The right to raise revenue for the whole reign from imports and exports.
What is a magnate?
Member of the higher ranks of nobility
What are prerogative rights?
The rights and powers which the monarch could exercise without parliaments consent
What was a courtier?
A person who attends the kings court as an advisor
What was the Privy Chamber?
Made up of the Kings close servants, gave them direct influence
What was extraordinary revenue?
Money raised through one off payments, usually for emergencies
Who was The Lord Chamberlain?
An experienced nobleman, member of the kings council, personal friend and he organised court
What were Bonds and Recognisances?
Legal bond to perform an action or forfeit money, a formal acknowledgement of debt or obligation
What were crown lands?
Land that is owned by the monarch
What is wardship?
Allowed the crown to gain money from property being held by minors
What is feudal aid?
Tax from the crown for knighting eldest son/marriage of eldest daughter or ransom.
What was the Statue of Uses?
Prevented property from becoming a trust, which prevented tax on deceased persons estate.
What was the Council Learned?
A system to ensure the king raised money and enforced his prerogative rights.
What was the Kings council?
A function to advise the king, administer the realm and make legal judgements
What was the kings court?
Centre of the government, where the king gave and removed status.
What was a Justice of the Peace?
Usually Local gentry who would maintain law and order in the country

Lord Chamberlin, accused of treason and support of Perkin Warbeck
Who was Perkin Warbeck?
Henry’s biggest pretender, impersonated Richard (Duke of York)
Who is Sir Reginald Bray?
Faithful servant to Henry, Chancellor of Duchy of Lancaster, He was more powerful than most nobles so had more of an influence towards Henry.
Who is the Earl of Warwick?
Edward IV Nephew, strong claim to the throne, placed in the tower in 1485, Killed alongside Perkin Warbeck
Who is Lambert Simnel?
Pretended to be Earl of Warwick, King of Ireland in 1487, spared after the Battle of Stoke Field
Who is the Earl of Lincoln?
Nephew of Richard III and Edward VI, leader of the Yorkists after Bosworth.
Who was Sir Richard Empson?
Key figure in the Council Learned in Law
