What were Henry’s 3 main objectives?
Recognition,strong trade links and security in Europe.
Why was Brittany so important?
Due to its geographical position it was a key advantage for military and trade campaigns. It would be a huge threat if France were to control the duchy.
Why was there a Treaty with Brittany?
Due to a French invasion in 1487 Henry needed to secure Brittany so with the Treaty of Redon in 1489 Anne would pay Henry to defend Britanny.
When was the Treaty of Etaples?
November 1492, strategic by Henry. Launched an invasion of France in 1491 as he knew Charles would be quick to have peace due to his intent to invade Italy.
What were the terms of the Treaty of Etaples?
Henry was reimbursed the costs for the invasion. France payment of 5000 per year and Charles would withdraw support for Warbeck.
What Treaty in 1505 was threatening to Henry?
Treaty of Blois marriage alliance between Maximilian (HRE) on behalf of Charles (future Charles V HRE) and Claude of France. Technically an alliance between the Spanish Kingdoms and France and was threatening following the isolation by Ferdinand.
Why did Henry set up an embargo with Burgundy in 1494?
Due to Margaret and Phillip’s support for Warbeck.
When and why did the Embargo end?
Due to the importance of trade between Burgundy and the Netherlands. Magnus Intercursus 1496 strong trade and neither side could harbour pretenders.
What was the Treaty of Windsor?
Following Phillip and Juana ship wrecking in England on their journey to Spain. Henry capitalised on their weakness and in return for his support their would be much stronger trade (returned to Magnus terms after Phillips death) and HRE would and over Edmund de la Pole.

What Treaty was signed with Spain in 1489?
Median del Campo. Marriage alliance with Arthur and Catherine. Defend each other in the event of attack and neither side could harbour pretenders.
Why did Spain and England’s relationship deteriorate?
Ferdinand doubted Henry due to the threat of Warbeck. Following Arthur’s death further deterioration. All led to Henry’s misplaced support of Phillip and his diplomatic isolation from Europe.(Left out of the financially beneficial League of Cambrai)
How did Henry secure the execution of Warbeck?
Following the Cornish rebellion, Anglo-Scottish relations needed to improve to put down the rebellion. Further improvement with the Treaty of Ayton in 1497. James executed Warbeck in 1499.
How threatening was Ireland to Henry?
A little, crowned Simnel as the King of England in 1486 and helped Warbeck create an uprising between 1495-96. Ultimately relations improved following the death of Warbeck and by the early 1500s Kildare fully supported Henry.
