led by Francis Lovell
also involved Stafford brothers (Thomas and Humphrey)
Both were yorkist supporters
they believed they would gain social standing, political power and wealth from deposing Henry and putting the Yorkists back on the throne.
Lovell Rebellion (events)
-Henry was travelling North during his procession in april 1486
-stafford brothers broke sanctuary from colchester
-Lovell headed north to waylay the king
-stafford brothers travelled to worcester to raise a rebellion in the west
-Henry heard about the plot in Lincoln
-he offered them a choice of pardon and reconciliation or excommunication and death
Lovell Rebellion outcome
the rebels dispersed
Lovell evaded capture and fled to Flanders
Stafford’s requested sanctuary once again
(denied as they were declared traitors)
Humphrey was executed
Thomas was pardoned and remained loyal afterwards
