He encouraged it e.g he awarded patronage to John and Sebastian Cabot

They were tasked with finding a sea route to Asia in order to participate in the spice trade

The English economy grew due to the expansion of trade in the Mediterranean and Baltic, leading to increased wealth and prosperity
The economy was briefly disrupted over trade disputes e.g trade embargo with Burgundy
Overall, the economy remained based on agriculture and was largely stable
