Henry wanted complete power over his kingdom didn’t like that the pope could interfere decisions about peoples marriages

Henry was nearly bankrupt after spending most of money in war against France and towards his lavish lifestyle so being the head of the church meant he had all of their wealth monasteries also owned a quarter of the land in England so if Henry took control of the church he could shut them down and keep the land
