Q
To consolidate power Henry did 4 things. What were they?
why did he do this?
A
- Dated his reign from the 21st August 1485 the day before the Battle of Bosworth (this ensured that anyone who had fought on the Yorkist side could be designated as a traitor).
- He publicly rewarded many of key supporters(for example conferring 11 knighthoods).
- He arranged for supporters to detain the Earl of Warwick, Edward IV’s nephew (who could be seen as having as much greater claim to the throne than Henry himself).
- He made key appointments to his Council and household (for example making Sir Reginald Bray Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Sir William Stanley Chamberlain of the Household).
