the treaty of tours was signed; peace with France exchanged for marriage of HVI and MoA and surrendered Maine
what happened in 1449
HVI restarted the war against France; English forces suffered defeats and lost Normandy-> HVI goes into catatonic state
who advised HVI to restart the war with France and suffered the consequences
DoSuffolk advised HVI to restart the war; he was charged with treason by parliament and was banished until he was captured and his head was chopped off with a rusty sword

loss of Gascony; starts HVI catatonic state and York’s first protectorate

the first battle of st albans; HVI onve again lapsed into a catatonic state and is proven to be extreme my weak and under control of key nobles eg Somerset

the Battle of Blore Heath; HVI is incapable so his wife raises an army
how was HVI weak economically (4)
- poor due to inheriting large debt from war with France and slump in european trade
- owed a lot of money to nobles eg York
- too generous to the church
- relied on income off land which was reduced due to generous patronage
how was HVI weak via patronage (3)
- gave it to whoever asked for it ; couldn’t afford to be so generous
- borrowed money from nobility to cover costs of his massive household
- 1450 parliament forced HVI to take back all he land he’d given out via Act of Resumption
how was HVI weak via taxation (3)
- relied on custom revenue which decreased from approx 40,000 in 1421 to approx 28,000 in 1448
- parliament refused to raise taxes after Suffolk and Somerset convinced HVI to restart war with France
