Q

Does Mary deserve her ‘Nasty Nickname’?

A

In my opinion no since there is a disgraceful nursery rhyme made by some disgusting people and they called her ‘Bloody Mary’ because she killed a lot while her father Henry VIII killed way more but people hated him for that so I think that 1 of the reasons they hated her was that she was a GIRL.

Q

What does the ‘Mary Mary’ Nursery Rhyme mean?

A

“Mary, Mary, quite contrary”
They accused her of changing the religion in England so soon just for the sake of it and to be awkward.
“How does your garden grow”
They are making fun of her that she can’t have a child.
“With silver bells”
It’s talking about how she liked the sound of church bells and that everyone found that like really old fashioned music and boring.
“And cockleshells”
This part talks about her husband being unfaithful and doesn’t love her.
“And pretty maids all in row.”
It talks about how all of her dead babies are meant to be buried in a row.
