Hemostasis And Thrombosis Flashcards
What are the three parts of virchows triad?
These can all result in thrombis
Endothelial injury
Abnormal blood flow
Hyper coagulability
What are the possible outcomes of thrombosis?
Thrombolysis or reorganization
Continued propagation
Infarction of tissue
Fragmentation or detachment leading to embolization downstream (can lead to tissue death)
What is the most common material of emboli?
Thrombus
What is a paradoxical embolus?
When the patient has a patent for amen ovals and the thrombus can pass into the left side of the heart
What is a PE?
When a venous thrombus emboli passes through the right side of the heart into the pulmonary artery
What is an arterial embolism?
Emboli continue along with the flow of blood until they end up in a smaller artery
What can arterial embolism look like?
Eschemia of limbs. Most originate in the heart end go to lower extremities or brain
What do labs look like during DIC?
Prolonged PT and PTT, decrease fibrinogen, ddimer high, low platelets
Cause of hypothalamic shock?
Hemorrhage
Cause of cardiogenic shock
Large MI
ARRHYTHMIAS
Pericardial tamponade
