Hemostasis Flashcards
Coagulation Cascade: What are the Extrinsic Factors?
Collagen & Thromboplastins
Coagulation Cascade: What are the Intrinsic Factors?
Prothrombin & Fibrinogen
What is the purpose of Thromboplastin?
They accelerate the process of fibrin formation
Prothrombin is the inactive form of?
Thrombin
What is combined to create the fibrin threads?
Thrombin combines with Fibrinogen
How is a fibrin clot created out of fibrin threads?
Fibrin incorporate the platelet plug, plasma, & RBC to create the fibrin clot
What is pushed out of the fibrin meshwork when the fibrin clot begins to retract?
Serum
What ingredient is needed to break down or dissolve a blood clot?
An Enzyme Plasmin also called Fibrinolysin
What is the inactive form of Fibrinolysin?
Plasminogen
What is the active form of Plasminogen?
Fibrinolysin also called Plasmin
What activates the clot breakdown?
The damage tissue and activation of thrombin
What are anti-clotting factors?
- Heparin is an anticoagulant.
- A small amount of Plasmin is always circulating prevents clots
- Smooth vessels help prevent platelets from sticking
What are the 2 intravascular clots?
- Thrombus
- Embolus
What is a thrombus clot?
The blood clot adheres to a vessel wall
What is an Embolus clot?
The blood clot is free floating in the circulatory system (blood stream)
