Hemophagocytic histiocytic sarcoma Flashcards

1
Q

Q

How frequent are histiocytic diseases in cats

A

Histiocytic disease is extremely rare in cats

The most well-documented histiocytic syndrome in cats is feline progressive histiocytosis
- it is mainly due to a proliferation of Langerhans cells
- most frequently causes skin lesions (e.g., crusts, cutaneous nodules/masses of epithelial origin)
- it has a slower progression than histiocytic sarcoma
- feline progressive histiocytosis does not typically involve the spleen

Q

What are the clinicopathological findings in histiocytic sarcoma

A

Regenerative or non-regenerative anemia

Thrombocytopenia

Hyperbilirubinemia

Lymphopenia

+/- leukocytosis with marked neutrophilia

CD 18 and CD 204 immunohistochemistry which are consistent with hemophagocytic sarcoma if positive
