hemodynamic monitoring Flashcards
stroke volume
amount of blood pumped out of the heart (left ventricle - to the body) during each contraction measured in mL/beat
preload
preload is stretch. the amount of volume being returned to the right side of the heart from systemic circulation.
afterload
afterload is squeeze. the amount of resistance the left side of the heart has to overcome in order to eject blood.
contractility
ability to contract
cardiac output
blood volume pumped by heart in one minute
cardiac index
haemodynamic parameter that relates the cardiac output (CO) from left ventricle in one minute to body surface area (BSA), thus relating heart performance to the size of the individual. unit of measurement is litres per minute per square metre (L/min/m2).
