hematopoiesis Flashcards
what is the first site of hematopoiesis?
yolk sac
All newborns have extremely high
erythropoietin, nucleated red cells, and reticulocyte count leading to high HH levels
At around 3 months of age to puberty Hg will be at
a low of 10, Hct 30, physiologic anemia
where is erythropoieten made?
90% in the kidneys
10% in liver
60% polys/40% lymph in adults and newborns
Kids 40% polys 60% lymph bc they are making immunoglobulins
normal platelet amount
WBC
(200)
5-10
what do you typically use in a transfusion?
just the red cells, unless there is hemorrhage
what has to match in a transfusion?
donor RBC antigen and recipient’s plasma antibodies
blood type A has these two subtypes
A1 and A2, A2 reacts weaker therefore A2 B may be misdiagnosed as B
what are the 3 rh alleles??
Ce, Ee, D or no D
this is IgG and crosses the placenta
Rh factor, gets more severe with each child
this is IgM and does not cross the placenta
red cell blood type (ABO)
MCC hemolytic transfusion rxn
personnel error
what are some complications of blood transfusions
hemolytic shock
- urticaria
- pyrexia
- rigors
- lumbar pain
- SOB
- HA, vomiting
what should you do if a transfusion rxn happens
send specimen to lab
