Describe the physiologic changes in chronic anemia
A
O2 delivery is maintained by gradual increases in CO. Capillary beds open within vital organs to minimize distance from O2 supply to cells –> dec SVR, which fosters inc CO. This manifests as widened pulse pressure with dec dBP (= hypervolemic, high CO)
Correct anemia slowly to prevent acute pulmonary edema!
