Hematology Flashcards
Examples of LMWH drugs
Enoxaparin
Dalteparin
Tinzaparin
Direct oral anticoagulants
Direct factorsXa inhibitors(rivaroxaban,apixaban,
edoxaban)
Direct, thrombin inhibitor’s( lepiudin,argatroban , dabigatran)
D dimer
D-dimer is a protein fragment (small piece) that’s made when a blood clot dissolves in your body.
Causes of DIC
Obstetrical emergencies
Sepsis
Leukemia (specially promyelocytic leukemia)
Rattlesnake bites
DIC on lab
• Elevated PT /PTT /Thrombin time
• Low platelets
Consumption of platelets in thrombi
• Low fibrinogen (consumption)
- Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia
• Low RBC (anemia)
• Schistocytes on blood smear
Elevated D-dimer
Rx of DIC
Fresh, frozen plasma
Cryoprecipitate
Treat the underlying disorder
B thalassemia minor features
• Mildest form of disease
• Usuallv asvmptomatic with increased RBC count
• Microcytic, hypochromic RBCs and target cells on blood
Hemoglobin electrophoresis
• Slightly decreased HbA(2(alpha, beta))
• Increased HbA2 ( 2(alpha, gama))to 5% (normal 2.5%)
• Increased HbF to 2% (normal 1%)
