Heirarchy Of Life And Other Flashcards
Atoms
Is the lowest matter, they are small particles that make up everything you see and touch.
How many particles that makes up an Atom?
3 particles.
What are atoms made of?
Positive protons
Neutral neutrons (no charge/isotopes)
Negative charge electrons
Molecule
2 or more atoms that are bonded together. (Atoms combined to form molecules)
Organelle
different organs inside a cell. They each have a specific job to do to keep the cell alive.
Ex) Nucleus, ribosomes
Cells
Smallest unit of life. They can live on its own and makes up all living organisms and the tissue of the body.
Tissue
Are groups of similar cells that work together.
Organ
A group of different tissues
Organ system
Is a group of organs work together to do a specific job in the body.
Organisms
Are living things
Variable
Refers to negative feedback. Bringing the original change to the variable back to normal.
Ex) Variable is body temp that needs to be stable
Differentiation
The process by which immature cells become mature cells with specific functions,
Ex) Cells turning to muscle cells
Evolution
The process by which populations of organisms change over time
What are the different parts that make up a cell?
Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Nucleus, and Organelles
Cell membrane
a thin layer that surrounds the cell and holds all the insides of the cell
Cytoplasm
A jelly substance that fills inside a cell that keeps organelles together.
Nucleus
Is the control center of the cell. It gives instructions for how the cell should work and grow.
Cellular Composition
Different parts that make up a cell
