When doing a visual acuity test, what does the finding 200/20 suggest?

A

It means that the patient can read print that a person with normal vision can read at 200 feet.
* Larger the second number, the worst the vision. I.e. 20/40 corrected

A

Fine rhythmic oscillation of the eyes.

During the othalomscopic exam, you do not see a red reflex, what conditions are you concerned about?

A

Suggests an opacity of the lens (cataract), or possibly,the vitreous (or even an artificial eye).
* Less commonly, a detached retina, or in child, a retinoblastoma may obscure this reflex.

A

Hearing loss possibly resulting from the following conditions,
Otosclerosis, Ottis media, perforation of the eardrum, and cerumen.

What is Pterygium?

A

A triangular thickening of the bulbar conjunctiva that grows slowly across the outer surface of the cornea, usually from the nasal side. Redding may occur, may interfere with vision as it encroaches on the pupil.

What is Ptosis?

A

A drooping of the upper lid.
* May be cause myasthenia gravis, damage to CN III, damage to the sympathetic nerve supply (Horner Syndrome).
* Alternatively, a weakened muscle, relexed tissues, and the weight of herniated fat may cause senile ptosis, can also be congenital.
