- cough absent +1
- exudate or enlarged tonsils +1
- nodes (swollen or tender cervical nodes) +1
- temp >100.4F +1
- OR: < 15 yrs old +1 pt, 15-44 is 0 pts and >44 is -1 pt
acute onset severe eye pain
photophobia
tearing
blurred vision in 1 eye
keratitis (inflammation of cornea affecting visual acuity)
send to ED!
keratitis can lead to
permanently damage corneal epithelium to corneal blindness
major risk factor for keratitis:
contact lens
can be from trauma, poor lens hygiene
dendritic fern like lines in corneal surface
herpes keratitis
elderly pt with acute onset severe eye pain with headache
-nausea/vomiting
-halos around lights
-cornea cloudy
-decreased vision
acute narrow angle closure glaucoma
SEND TO ED
young adult with new loss of vision in 1 eye alone or with nystagmus or other abnormal eye movements
-neuro sx’s (aphasia, paresthesia, abnormal gait)
-c/o daily fatigue worsening throughout the day
-recurrent episodes
optic neuritis a/s with multiple sclerosis
sudden onset of floaters
looking thru a curtain sensation
sudden flashes of light
retinal detachment
refer to ED
