Describe Achilles tendon pathology

A

TENDINOPATHY - overuse injury characterised by pain + loss of function

RUPTURE - Tears of tendon fibres cause acute inflammatory response

Diagnosis Achilles tendon pathology

A

TENDINOPATHY
-morning stiffness + pain
-symptoms often begin at start of activity but ease with movement
-possible palpable nodule at mid portion of tendon
-swelling may be present

RUPTURE
-positive thomson test
-difficult to PF
- palpable defect may be detected
