Describe Achilles tendon pathology
TENDINOPATHY - overuse injury characterised by pain + loss of function
RUPTURE - Tears of tendon fibres cause acute inflammatory response
Diagnosis Achilles tendon pathology
TENDINOPATHY
-morning stiffness + pain
-symptoms often begin at start of activity but ease with movement
-possible palpable nodule at mid portion of tendon
-swelling may be present
RUPTURE
-positive thomson test
-difficult to PF
- palpable defect may be detected
Describe Severs disease
Heel pain in growing children
Diagnosis Severs disease
CLINICAL
-activity-related pain
-localised tenderness on palpation at insertion of anterior tibialis into heel
-Limp
-walking on toes
RADIOLOGICAL
