HEATING VOCABULARY 1 Flashcards
Keeps the furnace from overheating- will trip if: dirty filter, if blower stops or is spinning slow, cracked heat exchanger
- usually going to be an auto reset.
LIMIT SWITCH
Draws air from the house, blows it across the heat exchanger, then sends the air to warm the house.
- Shaded pole, PSC (permanently split capacitor), ecm (electronically controlled)
BLOWER ASSEMBLY
Combustion gasses first pass into this chamber. while the air is to be heated passes over the outside. This is the hottest area of the furnace. Two types are tubular and clamshell
PRIMARY HEAT EXCHANGER
Draws combustion gasses through the heat exchanger and exhaust to the outdoors.
INDUCER MOTOR
Collects moisture from the secondary heat exchanger.
CONDENSATE TRAP
Controls the flow of gasses to the furnace.
GAS VALVE
located at burner box, will trip if the flame rolls out.
ROLL OUT SWITCH
Produces 24v AC to operate thermostat and relays.
TRANSFORMER
Combustion gasses enter here from the primary. with combustion gasses already cooled some. The secondary is located directly above the blower. So the coolest air from the blower goes across the secondary, extracting as much heat as possible. This causes combustion gasses to condense leaving moisture inside the furnace. A heat exchanger is the largest component in a furnace. Commonly made of stainless steel or aluminum only found in 90+ efficiency furnaces.
SECONDARY HEAT EXCHANGER
