A/C Vocabulary Flashcards
Condenser
Releases heat from the refrigeration system by releasing it in the ambient air, typically outside
Compressor
Moves refrigerant inside the system, hermetic/semi-hermetic, ONLY vapor.
Evaporator
Absorbs heat into the refrigeration system, from the inside air.
Metering Device
Controls the Flow of Refrigerant in the system, fixed-piston, TXV, EXV
Superheat
Heat added to refrigerant, past its boiling point to help ensure refrigerant is 100% vapor before compressor.
BTU (British Thermal Unit)
Amount of Heat needed to raise 1 lb of water 1 degree fahrenheit.
Capacitor
Helps start and maintain voltage in motor
Latent Heat
Heat added or removed to cause a change in state, is not measurable with a thermometer.
Sensible Heat
Heat that causes a change in temperature, can be measured with a thermometer.
Humidity
Amount of moisture in the air.
