Heating Controls Flashcards
What is a thermostat, and what is its funktions?
A thermostat is a control which switches the tempreature of the building
what is ‘hysteresis’?
Its a sensor that controls the heating/cooling apparatus, it also switches off the power to prevent too frequent switching of the themometer
What is ‘Space heating’
A process of heating a specific indoor area or room to provide warmth and maintain a comfortable temperature
What would the thremostat do if the tempreature were to rise too high?
If the tempreature was at or above set level (20°C/68°F is usually adequate)the heating will turn off automatically. And will turn back on if its too cold.
What are Space Heating Systems
To measure the air tempreature of a room
What is a water Heating System?
It stores heated water in a cylinder strapped with a cylindar stat, and if the water teampreature is at or above the desired set level, the heater will automatically turn off.
Why must the tempreature of the water must not go too high, or too low?
So to prevent scalding if too high(44°C/111°F), and to prevent legionella if too low.
What is an invar rod, and how is it used?
Its a thermostst for electric immersion heaters, and its used to set the tempreature which is being used
What is the purpose of a programmers and timers
They are used to heat up the home when people are coming back home, and can be set on different time throughout the week
Why is it no necessary to keep your heating on thoughout the day?
- You would be using up energy which will be a waste at the end
- All the heat will be lost to the outside world, and more heat will have to replace it
What are the use for Electrical operating pumps and valves?
They are used to produce and control the flow of hot water
What are the two types of vlaves used for general heating sytems
- zone vlave
- three-port valve
What is the use of a Zone vlave
It has two water connections and is used to control the flow of water through a pipe, turning it on and off.
what is the use for a three-port valve
It has one inlet connection and two outlet connection, basically direction the flow of the water as well but in different directions
