Heat Transfer Flashcards
1
Q
Conduction
A
Heat traveling through a conductor
2
Q
Convection Current
A
A current created by heat causing changes in the density of fluid
3
Q
Thermal Radiation (Infrared radiation)
A
Does not need a medium to travel through, so can pass through a vacuum.
4
Q
Best state of a material for conduction
A
- Solid
- Liquid
- Gas
5
Q
How is a convection current made?
A
- The heat source heats the (Water)
- The hot (Water) expands, and becomes less dense. The less dense (Water) rises.
- Cooler, more dense (Water) sinks to replace the warm (Water) causing a convection current.
6
Q
Shiny Materials & Thermal Radiation
A
Shiny objects reflect the heat.
7
Q
Colours and Thermal Radiation
A
Black is the best emitter and absorber of heat energy.
White is the worst.
