Heat and Energy Transfer Flashcards
What does your body do when your cold and why?
- Hairs on skin stand up
- To trap a thicker layer of insulating air around the body to reduce heat loss through convection
What does your body do when your hot and why?
- Diverts more blood flow near the surface of skin
- So More heat can be lost by radiation
List the Nine Types of energy:
- Electrical
- Light
- Sound
- Kinetic
- Nuclear
- Thermal/Heat
- Gravitational Potential
- Elastic Potential
- Chemical
Example of electrical energy
whenever a current flows
Example of light energy
from the sun, light bulbs etc.
Example of sound energy
loudspeakers
Example of kinetic energy
anything thats moving
Example of nuclear energy
released only from nuclear reactions
Example of thermal energy
flows from hot objects to colder ones
Example of gravitational potential energy
possessed by anything which can fall
Example of elastic potential energy
stretched springs, elastic, rubber bands, etc.
Example of chemical energy
possessed by foods, fuels, batteries etc.
Conservation of Energy Principle =
- Energy can be transferred from one to another, stored of dissipated, but can never be created of destroyed
