Heart Systems Flashcards
Cardiac Cycle Structure of the Heart
Tricuspid Valve
Located between the right atrium and right ventricle
Bicuspid Valve(Mitral)
Located between left atrium and ventricle
Valve Function
Prevent the backflow of blood, usually in veins.
Diastole
As the heart relaxes blood flows in the atria via the vena cava and pulmonary vein.Pressure builds in the atria forcing blood through the atrioventricular valves into the ventricle.
Atrial Systole
The atria contract forcing more blood into the ventricles.AV valves close preventing any blood flow back into the atria.Aortic and pulmonary valves shut.
Ventricular Systole
Ventricles contract forcing blood out of the aortic and pulmonary valves. The pulmonary and aortic valves shut.
Vasomotor Control
The ability of muscular arteries and arterioles to change shape.During exercise the sensory receptors, baroreceptors, chemoreceptors are stimulated.Vasomotor receives this information and sympathetic nerves carry impulses to smooth muscle walls.
non active tissues
Vasconstrict causing the arteries to narrow and to the pre-capillary sphincters located at the openings of the capillary tissues. This restricts blood flow to the non active tissues.
