Heart Structure Flashcards
Function of heart
Transport blood, carry 02, motnents, wastes, and electrolytes to and from body cells
Base
The superior end where the great veins and arteries are and it points towards right thorax
Apex
The pointed tip of the heart at the inferior end which points toward the left hip and rests on the diaphragm
Pericardium
Serous membrane that surrounds the heart and secretes fluid to reduce friction
Pericardial sac
What 3 layers compose the heart walls?
Epicardium, myocardium, endocardium
Right atrium
Receives deoxygenated blood from the body
Right ventricle
Pumps deoxygenated blood into lungs
Left atrium
Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs
Left ventricle
Pumps oxygenated blood to the body
SVc
Ivc
Drain deoxygenated blood into right atrium
Pulmonary trunk
Receives deoxygenated blood pumped from right ventricle
Pulmonary veins
Drain deoxygenated blood into left atrium
Aorta
Receives oxygenated blood pumped from left ventricle
Right atrioventricular valve
Between right atrium and right ventricle
Pulmonary semi lunar valve
Between right ventricle and pulmonary trunk
Left atrioventricular valve
Between left atrium and left ventricle
Aortic semi-lunar valve
Between left ventricle and aorta
