Heart lab and test values Flashcards
BUN
Normal around 6 to 24 mg/dL.
Blood urea nitrogen
A BUN test measures the amount of urea nitrogen that’s in your blood.
Urea nitrogen is found in the blood. The liver produces nitrogen in the urea cycle as a waste product of the digestion of protein. The kidneys are supposed to get rid of it. High levels of it in your blood means that your kidneys are not working properly.
High BUN and low Creatinine?
high BUN-Creatinine ratio, particularly if it is more than 20 and the person has a normal creatinine, usually indicates dehydration.
Creatinine (complique) normal range men and women
- For adult men, 0.74 to 1.35 mg/dL
- For adult women, 0.59 to 1.04 mg/dL.
A creatinine test is a measure of how well your kidneys are performing their job of filtering waste from your blood. Creatinine is a chemical compound left over from energy-producing processes in your muscles. Healthy kidneys filter creatinine out of the blood.
Glucose
Fasting Blood Sugar Test
This measures your blood sugar after an overnight fast (not eating). A fasting blood sugar level of 99 mg/dL or lower is normal, 100 to 125 mg/dL indicates you have prediabetes, and 126 mg/dL or higher indicates you have diabetes.
High glucose can indicate ?
Dammage to the kidneys.
Hematocrit
is a blood test that measures how much of a person’s blood is made up of red blood cells. Hematocrit would be decreased because it sits above the kidneys and if they kidneys are damaged the erythropoietin is reduced.
a hormone secreted by the kidneys that increases the rate of production of red blood cells in response
When there is low red blood cells
When there is low red blood cells Hematocrit …..?
The kidney releases erythropoietin to tell the bone marrow to make more. This is because the kidney are in control of blood in the body. They filter it
