Heart Flashcards
syncytium
allow heart to function as one muscle
what are the three major conduction vessels of the heart
superior vena cava, aorta, pulmonary trunk
what are the two types of heart cells
autorhythmic/pacemaker cells, contractile cells
pacemaker cells
set the rhythm/pace of the contraction cells
where are pacemaker cells located
sa node and av node
artificial pacemakers
the size of a quarter and is placed under the skin beneath the clavicle, wires come from this and attach to the heart and do the job of the pacemaker*it is possible that things with high voltage or waveforms may affect the rhythm of the pacemaker that’s why they sometimes say to stay away from microwaves
what does depolarization do
open voltage gated FAST sodium channels in the sarcolemma
what happens when calcium and potassium channels are open
when calcium opens calcium comes in when potassium opens potassium comes out
plateau
phase of action potential is very beneficial and needed for the heart to prevent tetanus or summation this would be fatal
