Heart Flashcards
What is the difference between veins and arteries?
Veins take blood to the heart, arteries take blood away from the heart (remember, A is for Arteries and Away)
What’s the order: Atrium to Ventricle or Ventricle to Atrium?
Atrium to Ventricle (remember, A comes before V in the alphabet)
What does pulmonary mean?
It means lungs, so pulmonary veins and arteries go back and forth from the lungs and heart. Pulmonary valve controls what goes to the lungs
Which enters at the top of the heart and which enters at the bottom of the heart: the superior and inferior vena cavas
The superior vena cava is at the top of the heart and the inferior vena cava is at the bottom of the heart (remember, superior vena cava is at the top of the heart because it’s more superior to the inferior vena cava, therefore it’s higher)
Which of the four chambers of the heart does the superior and inferior vena cavas connect to?
The right atrium
What is the aorta?
An artery
What side of the heart has a thicker myocardium?
The left side, because it has more muscle there. The left Ventricle must create a lot of pressure to pump blood.
What are capillaries?
Small vessels for nutrients exchange
What is the difference between the left side and the right side of the heart?
The right side gets deoxygenated blood and pumps it to the lungs to get oxygen. The left side gets oxygenated blood and pumps it throughout the whole body.
