heart Flashcards
what are the four chambers of the heart
left atrium, left ventricle, right atrium, right ventricle
what are semi lunar valves ( atrio ventricular valves )
valves that stop blood flowing the wrong way around the heart
features of LA
left atrium:
carries oxygenated blood
pumps blood to left ventricle
blood comes from pulmonary vein
features of LV
left ventricle:
thick walls to build enough pressure to pump blood all around the body
blood is oxygenated
leaves the left ventricle in the aorta
features of RA
right atrium:
carries deoxygenated blood
blood comes from vena cava
pumps blood to right ventricle
features of RV
right ventricle:
blood is deoxygenated
pumps blood up to the lungs
blood leaves in the pulmonary artery
which vein enters the right atrium
vena cava
which artery exits the right ventricle
pulmonary artery
which artery exits the left ventricle
aorta
which vein enters the left atrium
pulmonary vein
what tissue is the heart made of
cardiac muscle/tissue
