What is an Significant Threshold Shift (STS)?
A
A change in hearing threshold relative to the current reference audiogram of an average of 10 dB or more at 2000, 3000, and 4000 Hz, in either ear.

STSs can be either what?
A
- Positive (poorer hearing)
- Negative (better hearing)

What do you do for a negative STS?
A
Have them retest again, if improved assume the original is fucked up.

What do you do for a postive STS?
A
- Retest after a 14 hour noise free environment.
- notify supervisor.
- If still positive, document on SF 600 and conduct an exam, if normal retest.
- If not refer to specialist and reestablish reference audiogram.
- Notify Supervisor within 21 days of positive STS.
