What are Heredity Characteristics?
Physical and mental characteristics are passed down from one generation to another.
What is a list of Heredity Characteristics?
Eye and hair colour, skin tone, blood group, intelligence, body and face shape.
What are Environmental Characteristics?
Nutrition, exercise, education and more factors which are passed down from one generation to another.
What is a list of Environmental Characteristics?
Nutrition, exercise (sports), education (ability to learn) and more…
What are Hormones?
Substances that act like messenger molecules inside the human body.
What do Hormones do?
They help control many body functions such as growth and reproduction
What are some Hormones?
Progesterone, testosterone, Insulin estrogen, oestrogen and growth hormones.
What is Progesterone?
Prepares the lining of the uterus for a fertilized egg to implant and grow.
What is Testosterone?
The male hormone is responsible for regulating sex differentiation and providing male characteristics.
What are some Male changes?
Hair in certain areas, deepening of voice, broadening of shoulders, enlargement or testes and penis
What are some Female changes?
Hair in certain areas, development of breasts, widening of hips pelvis, start of menstruation and ovulation
What changes do both have?
Acne, growth spurts, muscle strength, change in sex hormones, hair in certain areas and voice change.
What are Chromosomes?
A single molecule of DNA that serves to carry genetic information.
What are the (X) and (Y) Chromosomes?
DNA which determines the gender of an individual.
What does it mean if (XX) Chromosomes?
This means that the individual is a female.
What does it mean if (XY) Chromosomes?
This means that the individual is a male.
What is the Reproductive System?
Production and fertilization of gametes/sperm and, in females, the carrying of a fetus.
What are the Ovaries?
small, oval-shaped glands on either side of the uterus which produce and store eggs
What are the Fallopian Tubes?
The tube through which the egg passes through the ovary
What is the Penis?
The organ that becomes erect when its tissues fill with blood
What is the Vagina?
The passage through which the menstrual flow leaves the body
What are the Testicles?
The male sex cell
What is the Urethra?
The tube through which urine passes out of the body

Where the fertilised eggs becomes a baby

The sac that holds the testes
