Transtheoretical model
There is also social norms theory, motivational interviewing, social marketing, nudging, financial incentives
What are the four criteria of the health behaviour model and the lil extra
Will people change behavior if they believe
They’re susceptible to a condition
There will be serious consequences
Changing behaviour will reduce risk
Pros of stopping behaviour outweighs the cons
Plus cue to action
Problems with health belief model
Doesn’t take into account social cues for behaviour
Doesn’t consider if person believes self capable of behavior
Doesn’t consider influence of emotions
What are the stages of the transtheoretical model (5)
Pre contemplation Contemplation Preparation Action Maintenance Relapse
Disadvantages of transtheoretical model
Not accurate for all forms of health behaviour
Some people move backwards in stages or skip stages
Doenst take into account social factors eg values habits
What are the three bits of planned behavior theory
Attitudes (ie smoking is bad)
Subjective norm (people around me want me to give up smoking)- only one to take into account social factors
Perceived behavioural control (I have the ability to give up smoking)
Then u set ur intention ie I will give up smoking
Cons of planned behaviour theory
Lack do causality
Not temporal
No account of emotions
Relied on self reported behaviour
Pros of transtheoretical
Acknowledges relapse kws for variation in mindset due to various stages
Pros of planned behavior
Takes into account social factors
Works with lots of behaviors
