Health needs assessment is a systematic method for reviewing the health issues facing a population, leading to agreed priorities and resource allocation that will improve health and reduce inequalities.
what is the purpose of HNA
the purpose is to gather the information required to bring about change beneficial to the health of the population.
what is need
a need is something which is required or essential rather than desired or wanted
ph definition of need is the capacity to benefit
what types of needs there are
1) normative need - defined by experts
2) felt need-defined by pts
3) expressed need- when felt need translated into an action
4) comparative need- where needs are compared in terms of severity, cost, range of interventions etc
what are the aspects of need
wants- what we desired in services (felt need)
demands - our wants expressed (expressed needs)
needs- what we actually require to gain benefit ( normative needs)
supply- what services are supplied
