how is the FOG index calculated?

A
  • sample 100 words
  • count number of words + sentences
  • calculate the avg sentence length
  • calculate the % of complex words (3+ syllables)
  • add % and avg sentence length together
  • times it by 0.4 to get the FOG index
  • add 5 to get the reading age
