Q

what is the health belief model

A

the likelihood of patient changing their behaviour is determined by the patient’s susceptibility to disease. if the patient feels threatened or sees that behaviour change is beneficial, they will change their behaviour.

Q

what is the transtheoretical model

A

this is a cycle, with different stages. the patient can enter at any stage:

  • precontemplation (don’t want to change)
  • contemplation
    (thinking about change)
  • preparing
    (know they should change)
  • action
  • maintenance
    (find it hard)
  • replace
  • back to precontemplation

Q

what is a brief intervention

A

it is an intervention offered to the patients in little time. takes about 5-10 mins. it’s opportunistic, as it looks to change the patient’s harmful behaviours whilst they are present. (eg. alcohol consumption). using FRAMES model works.
