What are the limitations of the health belief model?
does not account for a person’s attitudes, habits and social behaviours that does not take into account habits
It does not take into account social behaviors such as social acceptability.
does not account for environmental or economic factors
assumes everyone has equal access to information on the illness or disease
assumes health actions are the main goal in the decision-making process.
What does the health belief model believe?
the threat of an illness as well as belief in the effectiveness predict the likelihood the person will adopt the behaviour.
What does the transtheoretical model of behaviour change believe?
an individual’s readiness to shift from negative to positive behaviours progresses through five stages
What are the limitations of the transtheoretical model of behaviour change believe?
- the criteria for a person’s stage are not standardized
- The model assumes individuals make logical plans in their decision-making
- The Transtheoretical Model assumes all individuals are ready to change
- does not consider the impact of other confounding health behaviours.
- The Transtheoretical Model does not address the biological, environmental, or social issues related to change in health behaviours

people do not intend to take action in the foreseeable future

people are intending to start the healthy behaviour in the foreseeable future
What is the Preparation stage of the transtheoretical model of behaviour change?
People start to take small steps toward the behaviour change
What is the Action stage of the transtheoretical model of behaviour change?
people have recently changed their behaviour
What is the Maintenance stage of the transtheoretical model of behaviour change?
people have sustained their behaviour change for more than 6 months
