“Any activity undertaken by an individual believed to be healthy for preventing disease or detecting it at an asymptomatic stage”
What are the groups that behavior change interventions can be targeted at?
Population - smoking ban
Community - spin classes
Individual - healthy eating adverts
What are some cues for unhealthy eating?
senses (visual, auditory, olfactory), location, time and emotion.
What are some examples for reinforcement strategies for unhealthy eating?
o Positive reinforcement – dopamine, boredom, praise for high-fat meal for family.
Delayed positive reinforcement for healthy eating (effects take too long to have an effect).
Efforts at dietary change go unnoticed by others (no positive reinforcement).
o Negative reinforcement – avoid painful emotions by comfort eating.
o Punishment – preparing a low-fat meal is criticised.
