Health Behaviour 2 Flashcards
An integrative model for targeted intervention
1) MUST specify the behaviour to be changed
2) understand the nature of the behaviour and underpinning influences
3) choose behaviour change technique matched to diagnosis ( eg prescriptions)
Why don’t people behave in ways that promote better health ?
1) lack of capability ( lack of knowledge or skills) - both psychological and physical capability.
2) insufficient opportunity ( issues around time , social factors , resources )
3) lack of motivation : because healthy behaviours are usually difficult boring or unpleasant while unhealthy behaviours are usually enjoyable or meet immediate needs.
What does the COM-B model state ?
The three factors that affect a persons willingness to change their behaviour :
1) motivation
2) capability ( psychological and physical )
3) opportunity ( resources , time , availability )
What does the nudge theory suggest

How can nudge be used to promote healthy behaviours ?
- placing a fruit bowl on the front counter in a school canteen to encourage children to buy more fruit
