What are the two parts to deciding what is ‘reasonably practical’? In relation to ensuring health and safety.
First - consider what is possible in your circumstances to ensure health and safety
Second - of the possible actions, consider what is reasonable to do in your circumstances.
What is the hierarchy of controls (relating to risk in heath and safety) starting from the most effective?
Elimination - physically remove hazard
Substitution - replace the hazard
Engineering controls- isolate people from the hazard
Administrative controls - change the way people work
PPE - protect the worker with personal protective equipment
In relation to health and safety what are the 3 must do’s
Ensure everyone new to your workplace/work area is inducted
Must ensure staff have access to H &S advice
Report and review all H&S incidents and near misses.
What is a near miss?
An unplanned or unexpected event that occurs as a result of police work/activities and under slightly different circumstances could have resulted in harm to a person but did not.
