What is the role of the Principal Designer? Can you be a Principal Designer?
- Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase of a project.
- No, it should be an individual with sufficient knowledge, experience and ability to carry out the role.
What is the role of the Health and Safety Executive?
To prevent workplace death, injury or ill health, through using a variety of methods to influence change and help people manage risks at work.
What is an F10 form?
- Intended to notify the enforcing authority for the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 of any project that is likely to last longer than thirty days or involve more than 500 person days of construction work.
Who Notifies the HSE?
- Commercial Client - Client
- Domestic Client - Contractor or Principal Designer if there is written approval.
When is a project notifiable?
- 30 Days with more than 20 workers at the same time
or
- 500 person days
If you saw someone working unsafely on site, what would you do?
- Tell them to stop working.
- Report this to the site manager.
- Report this to AECOM’s internal risk management system.

- Fire Prevention on Construction Sites: The Joint Fire Code. Generally it applies to contracts with a value of more than £2.5million, but it can also apply to lower value contracts which are considered to be high risk or which form part of larger projects.
What is a site waste management plan?
- A planning document created prior to construction and submitted to the council
- Applies to all jobs over £300k
- Details the amount and type of waste that will be produced on a construction site and how it will be reused, recycled or disposed of
