What legislation is there on Health and Safety in the Workplace? And what does it say?
Health and Safety at Work 1974
- All employers should, so far as reasonable practicable, ensure the H&S and welfare of their employees.
How many employees is the minimum required to have to carry out a document H&S risk assessment of significant hazards?
5 members of staff
Can you give a simple outline of a risk assessment?
1) Identify the hazards present
2) identify the people at risk from the hazards
3) Evaluate the risk, consider the likelihood and severity. including existing precautions
4) record the findings
5) review the assessment regularly
6) advise all those affected of the outcome, including the precautions to minimise or eliminate.
What is a method statement
A document that details the way a work task or process is to be completed and prior approved.
It should outline hazards and how they have been minimised/elimated, and include step by step guide on how to complete the job safely.
What must a Health and Safety Policy document include? (4)
1) the organisation’s commitment to H&S
2) Details of the Org. H&S structure - role and responsibilities for organising H&S
3)A risk Assessment
4) Details of the planning, implementation of the H&S policy and control measures.
When were the ‘Six Pack’ of H&S regulations introduced?

What does the Six Pack seek to achieve?
A group of regulations on H&S clarifying how employers must comply with their duties under the Health and Saftey at Work Act 1974
