HEALTH AND DISEASE // EXTEND ANSWERS Flashcards
Explain why antibiotics won’t help a person who catches Swine Flu.
Antibiotics are drugs developed to attack bacteria. As the Swine Flu is caused by a virus they will have no effect on it
Explain using examples, the difference between Communicable and Non-communicable diseases.
Communicable diseases can be passed from one organism to another. An example of this is Swine Flu. Conversely a Non-Communicative disease like Cancer, can not be passed directly from one person to another.
Why does the virus need to get into the cells of the host
Viruses can not replicate themselves. They need to use the mechanisms found inside a living cell to reproduce themselves.
You are researching dangerous viruses. Explain and describe the precautions that you will take to protect yourself from infection.
You need to discuss why these procedures are used by the researchers: Isolation, air tight doors/room, limt access to the diseases, take care with sharp objects
Explain how Vaccinations prevent diseases
The process of Vaccination uses the body’s natural defense mechanisms to prepare a defense against potentially dangerous diseases.
